Course Overview

Health Coaching for Pharmacists will examine current foundations for health and wellbeing, including definitions and standards. Participants will learn health coaching models, theories and associated components. We will develop participants’ self-awareness through mindfulness exploration and self-assessments. Participants will learn skills and techniques for coaching patients such as motivational interviewing, non-violent communication, active listening, appreciative inquiry, emotional intelligence, and coaching presence. Participants will apply learned skills through peer practice during in-person sessions.

  • Pharmacists interested in assisting patients in creating sustainable healthy behavior changes
  • Pharmacy leaders and aspiring leaders seeking to broaden their understanding of health and wellness
  • Pharmacists seeking tools for workplace wellness and work-life balance
Completion Requirements

Participants will review material from books, articles, videos, websites, and recorded lectures They will demonstrate understanding through online discussion, quizzes and written assignments, including a final reflective paper through the course Moodle site and apply knowledge, skills and strategies into practice at the live sessions. There will be four in-person sessions, two for two hours each and two for three hours each: 1/25/18 from 6:00-8:00 pm; 2/15/18 and 3/8/18 from 6:00-9:00 pm; and 3/29/18 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Live sessions will include pharmacists and pharmacy students learning together. 

The next session of this course will be offered January 16 – March 30, 2018.
